About Madeline

Madeline is working to understand the factors that have enabled farmers to successfully incorporate Climate-Smart practices on their land, using their success stories to reach non-adopters and overall bolster Climate-Smart practices across the Northeast.

Originally from California, Madeline grew up sandwiched between stunning coastal redwoods and intensive high-value fruit and vegetable production farms, which motivated her to pursue a career focused on reducing the environmental impact of agriculture and finding synergy between agricultural and conservation priorities. As a current Ph.D. student in ecology and biogeochemistry at Penn State, Madeline’s research broadly explores how biophysical and socio-ecological factors shape the outcomes of Climate-Smart management practices. The goal of her research is to guide management decision-making that considers relevant soil, climate, and social factors to promote equitable access to the resources and knowledge needed to apply Climate-Smart practices in the face of global change. She decided to join the team after recognizing Pasa’s commitment to equity and justice as core organizational values.

Madeline lives in Centre County where she enjoys walking her dog, gardening, snowshoeing, and volunteering at the library.
