Advanced Vegetable Growers Discussion online series hosted by Pennypack Farm

This winter Pennypack Farm will be hosting a monthly online Advanced Vegetable Growers Discussion series and as a fellow organic vegetable farmer in our region we would love for you to join us! Each session will have a main guiding topic and a few discussion questions on hand but this series will be informal and an open opportunity for farmers to connect with each other, share challenges and successes, and chat about farming. Feel free to come to share or simply to listen. If enough interest exists there is the potential to continue this discussion series to provide an ongoing opportunity for the organic farming community to connect and share ideas. Please feel free to forward this message to any other growers you know that may be interested. Experienced farm apprentices are also welcome to join.

Winter Sessions:

Challenges and Successes of 2023: January 10, 6 pm.

In this session participants are invited to share some of the challenges and successes they experienced during the growing season and learn about those of other farmers. We will kick off the discussion by talking about our experience at Pennypack Farm managing a phytophthora fruit rot blight this season.

Hiring: February 7, 6 pm.

One of the most difficult parts of farming!! In this session the discussion will center on interviewing, hiring platforms, onboarding, and any other topics relating to staffing the farm for the season. From us at Pennypack we will share some of our unconventional interview questions and a few techniques we use to assess candidates on trial workdays.

Goals for the upcoming season: March 6, 6 pm

Are you growing anything new this season? Do you have any new systems or tools you are looking forward to implementing on your farm? Any adjustments from last year that you are looking forward to making? Join us as we discuss these and other topics about our goals for the upcoming season and get feedback or new ideas from fellow farmers.
