Sam is an AmeriCorps member placed with Pasa through the Working Lands Climate Corps program. He is training alongside our Climate-Smart Farming and Marketing team to support farmers as they implement farming practices to increase ecosystem resilience and food sovereignty from Maine to South Carolina.
Before joining Pasa, Sam received his foundational food systems inspiration from coordinating regional food hub operations in North Central Massachusetts. Through this experience, he learned the potential of aggregation, processing, and distribution infrastructures to uplift farmers’ stories, support them from soil to market, and strengthen the resilience and interconnectivity of foodsheds. Afterward, Sam took time to study and travel in the Netherlands, pursuing a Master of Science in Industrial Ecology. From supporting interdisciplinary projects, such as engaging stakeholders in finding implementation pathways towards regional circularity, he became familiar with tools and frameworks of systems thinking. Sam is excited to help grow his understanding of conservation-based farming practices and their socio-environmental impact, both on the farm and on the regional foodshed.
Sam loves to cook and learn new techniques for using whatever ingredients are available to him at the moment. He loves being creative, especially through music, singing in choirs, and knitting functional accessories.
