About Katia

Katia engages and collaborates with Indigenous communities, supporting their priorities and practices through our Climate-Smart program.

For over 10 years, Katia has been collaborating with diverse communities to advance social and environmental priorities, from the local to international level. Recently, she served as a Conservation and Justice Fellow for the Indigenous Kinship Circle and American Bird Conservancy, developing community-driven and equitable engagement strategies for Indigenous people throughout North America. In her hometown, Katia co-founded Together for Nature, an organization that prepares underserved and frontline communities, as well as the next generation to lead in sustainability and nature-based solutions. She is currently a graduate student at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln pursuing her master’s in natural resources and conducting research on the impacts of grazing practices on grassland resilience and biodiversity. Katia is also collaborating with Indigenous leaders to conduct a study centering on the social-ecological relationships, resilience, and priorities of Indigenous people in the northern Great Plains. She values Pasa’s interdisciplinary approach to improving social and environmental conditions through food systems and appreciates the commitment to centering equity and justice for a more sustainable future for all.

Katia loves being in nature and community. In her free time, you can find her hiking, writing, caring for plants, community building, and attending cultural shows.
