SUMMARY
Assists the Director of Land Management with the overall operation and maintenance of the Villa Maria Farm and its property. Experience operating tractors and tractor mounted implements. Provides for the safe, economical operation of equipment. Responsible for repairing farm equipment. This is a salaried position.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.
1. Administration
a. Works with personnel during seasonal or peak periods of high labor demands.
b. Maintains filed records and a notebook for reference of past work.
2. Farm & Land
a. Assists in planning and maintaining a crop rotation and implementing a conservation plan.
b. Helps plants and harvests garden crops.
c. Serves as land management department mechanic by adjusting, repairing, and maintaining equipment for crop production.
d. Removes tree branches, rocks, and stones from planting areas to prevent equipment damage.
e. Cut, ted, rake, bale, move and store hay.
f. Assists with weeding, pruning, harvesting, grapevine control and planting when necessary.
g. Assists with forestry-related projects.
h. Mows fields that are fallow to prevent the spreading of weeds and saplings.
i. Keeps roadways open to wooded areas for fire protection.
j. Other duties as assigned.
3. Other Duties
a. Assists Director from time to time with non-related functions including nature trail maintenance, hosting farm tours, etc.
b. Assists with greenhouse operations.
c. Assists with produce production.
d. Cuts and splits firewood for our wood furnace that helps in heating the greenhouse.
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Associate degree (Agricultural Science) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
-Valid driver’s license
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to occasionally speak effectively before groups.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES.
-Mechanical ability to use and maintain farm equipment.
-Ability to work in a team setting as well as occasionally leading and instructing others.
-Carpentry and construction skills.
-Self motivated.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and walk. The employee is occasionally required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear; and taste or smell. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25-50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions from extreme heat to extreme cold. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment ranges from moderately quiet to loud.
