Compensation: $25hour – $28/hour D.O.E.
Founded in 2000, Land Stewards has an established reputation as a leading ecologically-focused landscape design/build firm in southeast Pennsylvania. Working with diverse clients in varying contexts, our projects include naturalistic gardens, meadow and woodland restoration, sustainable stormwater management, natural stonework, and natural lands management. Our designs integrate ecological functions into our built environments and our management strategies aim to mimic natural processes.
We are currently seeking an enthusiastic dedicated foreperson with experience in landscape construction (including masonry and carpentry), operating landscape machinery (including skid steer and backhoe), and project and people management.
The successful candidate will bring: a demonstrated ability to effectively assess and adapt to evolving conditions; professionalism and integrity when interacting with clients, collaborators, and other Land Stewards team members; and enthusiasm to work hands-on with field crew on diverse projects. Our ideal candidate is also passionate about native plant communities and ecological land care, and regularly seeks to expand and share their knowledge.
Responsibilities
• Ensure a high level of craftsmanship while achieving efficiency in project implementation
• Maintain safe work site conditions and field operations
• Coordinate crew schedules, tasks, and logistics including necessary tools, equipment, and materials
• Contribute to diverse projects in the field alongside crew
• Keep accurate daily site logs
• Provide excellent customer service
• Demonstrate professional conduct, ethics, and integrity
Qualifications
• Minimum 3 years of relevant field experience successfully managing diverse landscape projects and personnel, and supporting them to achieve project goals while working alongside them in the field
• Minimum 3 years of relevant field experience in hardscape and carpentry
• Proficient in operating various hand tools and heavy equipment, including skid steer, backhoe, and dump truck
• Demonstrated ability to read and interpret landscape plans, structural drawings, and other project specifications
• Demonstrated ability to provide clear written and verbal instructions
• Ability to drive and maneuver a truck pulling a loaded trailer
• Clean and valid PA driver’s license and reliable transportation
• Manual dexterity and stamina:
• Ability to bend, kneel, walk, stand, crouch for long periods of time during the workday
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds repeatedly throughout the workday
• Ability to work in a range of outdoor conditions, including heat, cold, humidity, rain, mud, etc.
• Flexibility with work hours, which may include the occasional weekend during peak season
• Demonstrated knowledge of native plant communities and sustainable landscape strategies, including stormwater management and habitat enhancement, strongly preferred
• Certifications in OSHA, CPR, and/or First Aid preferred
Education
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with major course work in landscape design, horticulture, field ecology, environmental science, or related area of study.
Compensation
The starting wage range for this role is $25.00-$28.00, commensurate on experience. Land Stewards also offers contributions to health insurance and professional development opportunities.
