This is a part-time position starting at 4-6 hours a week, working Wednesday mornings. This position will begin Wednesday, June 4th and end the last week of August (12 weeks). This position will have the week of July 4th off. The workday typically begins at 8 AM and ends at 12PM. Additional hours into the afternoon may occasionally be needed during times of planting or heavy harvesting. In the summer, on days with particularly high heat, we will often begin the workday at 6:30 or 7 AM and end earlier. Part-Time crew members must have reliable transportation to and from the farm. Pay begins at $15 per/hour.

A Flower Harvester’s primary duties will include:

-Harvesting flowers for wholesale, market and Flower C.S.A. subscriptions
-Work as a team with Floral Director and Floral Assistant to accomplish weekly tasks
-Washing and sanitizing harvesting tools
-Keeping records of harvests
-Deadheading flowers in the fields
-Maintain cleanliness and organization around the farm

Secondary duties include:
-Arranging flowers for sale
-Hand weeding
-Field work transplanting flower seedlings

This position is entry-level, but floral design, farming, or gardening experience and/or general enthusiasm for plants and the outdoors is desirable, as well as a keen attention to detail. Flower harvesting requires the ability to notice and identify when different varieties of flowers are at an appropriate growth stage for harvesting. The ability to learn to identify these growth stages is essential to success in this position.

Working on a vegetable farm and among the flowers requires the ability to work in hot, cold, wet and changing conditions. It also requires the ability to safely lift 30 lbs and be on your feet for the entirety of the workday.

Flower crew members are self-motivated, detail-oriented, and efficient and enjoy working in a positive, professional, team environment.

Fifth Month Farm is a small diversified vegetable farm. We are located in Mount Joy, Pennsylvania and grow using organic practices. We grow year round for our Summer and Winter C.S.A.s, serving members in the Lancaster County and Philadelphia area. We grow many storage crops over the summer to sell during the winter months. The farm was founded in 2018 and is run by us, Devin and Kristi Barto. We are growing on a little under 5 acres of land that we lease. Our farm includes a heated propagation green house for transplant production, three large high tunnels, and one small storage tunnel. We grow over 50 different varieties of vegetables, as well as herbs, and flowers.
