2025 Oasis Farm Assistant

Timeframe: April – Nov 2025

Schedule: 25-35 hours per week, including occasional evenings or weekends. Weekly hours depend on harvesting and watering needs.

Oasis Farm is seeking an experienced Farm Assistant for the 2025 season. The Farm Assistant supports farm production tasks and maintenance of the farm, bioshelter, gardens, edible park, orchard, and surrounding garden and outdoor learning spaces. This includes vegetable and seedling production, field work for a diversified vegetable farm, as well as harvesting and packing produce for the Homewood Farmers Market, Everyday Cafe, and partner programs. Additional opportunities for community engagement, education and team leadership available if desired.

Harvest and packing tasks include: harvesting, washing, packing, inventorying supplies, deliveries, data entry, and wash area upkeep.
Field Work includes: general farm maintenance, cultivation, weeding, transplanting, landscaping, irrigation, pest management, data entry, and inventorying tools and supplies.
Education and outreach: Support with volunteers, tours, and events, as necessary.

Additional Responsibilities:
Attend and participate in relevant trainings and meetings
Be a collaborative and contributing member of the Bible Center team

Desired skills and abilities:
Interest in community-based outreach and engagement, like social media, marketing, communications, event planning, youth and community programming, public speaking, and volunteer engagement
Knowledge of produce/ food safety and harvesting techniques
Knowledge of OSHA regulations
Knowledge of Integrated Pest Management strategies

Requirements:
We are looking for someone with farming and growing experience – the ideal candidate has worked at least one full season on another farm or community garden. We are seeking crew members who are positive, self-motivated, comfortable working alone if needed, and driven to work efficiently.

Minimum of 1- 2 seasons experience and proficiency (at least 900 hours) in sustainable agriculture, vegetable gardening, aquaponics, horticulture, food systems, ecology, sustainability, urban farming and garden education; or, a related field; OR, any equivalent combination of experience, training, and/or education;
Demonstrated ability and commitment to working with people from a variety of experiences, especially ethnic, racial, education, and socioeconomic backgrounds;
Courteous, professional and enjoys working with and interacting with people, including funders/ partners, community members and youth;
Familiarity with basic carpentry and landscaping, including proper use of hand and power tools;
Possess strong work ethic, punctuality and ability to lead/ model by example;
Willing and able to work shifts up to 8 hours in all weather conditions;
Willing and able to lift 50 pounds repeatedly and kneel/ crouch for long periods of time;
Effective communication and interpersonal skills, especially social-emotional intelligence;
Proven ability to well in a team environment, but also to complete assignments independently;
Have excellent organizational, problem solving, and planning skills;
Must have access to a personal laptop/ phone;
Reliable transportation is required;
Must provide updated Federal Criminal History Check, Pennsylvania State Criminal Record Check, Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance;
Curiosity and a willingness to learn new skills.
