Small farm, big impact: A farm-to-school success story in Southwest Pennsylvania
Shortly before the pandemic in 2020, Andrew (Drew) Williams and Alex Halferty joined forces to start People’s Farm on approximately one acre of beautiful, hilled pasture land in Ligonier, Pennsylvania, to reconnect with the community they grew up in. Although it was challenging to start a new business during the pandemic, the experience demonstrated the vital role that local food systems play in supporting the health and wellbeing of the community during times of crisis.
This case study was funded through the USDA Regional Food Systems Partnership (RFSP) grant in partnership with the Pittsburgh Food Policy Council (PFPC).
