Event Description
Healthy soils area critical resource on any farm, and growing soil health requires a sound strategy and tools to measure progress. Through our Soil Health Benchmark Study, PASA farmers are working to measure and improve their soil health over time, as individuals and as a community. Participating farmers submit soil samples to the Cornell Comprehensive Assessment of Soil Health and also share information about their soil management practices, including cover cropping, reducing tillage, and organic amendments.

At this workshop, we’ll gear-up together for PASA’s 2018 Soil Health Benchmark study. Participants will learn best methods for soil health sampling and tools for tracking and organizing farm records.

We’ll also learn how to interpret the Cornell Soil Health test from the experts who have helped to develop it, Bob Schindelbeck and Aaron Ristow from Cornell University. Our hosts at Bending Bridge Farm, Audrey & Cameron Fisher-Pederson, will also share how they are using results from the PASA study to guide decisions for cover crop selection, tillage operations, and fertilizer and amendment purchases. Come prepared to get your hands in the soil and engage with other farmers to help raise the bar on soil health!
Registration will be open until 3/16/2018 at 5pm.
