The ability to provide low-income families the opportunity to eat well is the driving force behind the hard work that is poured into the garden. By providing access to fresh, nutritious food, staff and volunteers hope to reduce levels of chronic diseases such as high blood pressure and diabetes, and also provide clients a normal food shopping experience during some of the most difficult times in their lives.
During this free tour of the garden, farmer Alyssa Crawford will discuss the garden’s unique model for health and empowerment. She’ll also explain how the garden utilizes volunteer labor, in-ground beds for intensive production, and high tunnels in the city.
