Sheep 101 Workshop, Owens Farm, Sunbury PA

Getting started with sheep? Adding sheep to another livestock enterprise? Jump-start the learning curve and avoid common mistakes by spending a day with experienced shepherds–and a lively flock of sheep. You’ll learn practical handling skills, how to prepare for the Top 5 Sheep Problems, what equipment is needed…or not… do’s and don’ts for purchasing sheep, pros and cons of using border collies, and where to find valuable resources for continuing education. Expect a very hands-on experience.

Owens Farm is home to a 120 ewe flock of Katahdins and Coopworths and 200 lambs in spring. Rotational grazing is the cornerstone of our management protocol, and we use border collies to move the flock. We have raised sheep for 27 years in two farms in two states, and thoroughly enjoy helping new folks get started. Questions? Contact Caroline Owens info@owensfarm.com or 570-898-6060.
