Earlier this spring, after 11 years farming on leased land, Lindsey Shapiro and Landon Jeffries moved their farm (and family) 10 miles up the road to put down roots in Bally, Pennsylvania.
They’ll show us around the farm’s new home and share their story. We’ll discuss the ins and outs of a farm transition: from where to start—finding land, communicating with current owners, and working with lenders—to what to do when you get there, including creative ways to tackle infrastructure challenges and adapt management practices to new soil and terrain.
Bring your questions and comfortable walking shoes, and save room for dessert! We’ll end the night with a celebration of the summer solstice, sharing pie from the bakery at nearby Frecon Farms and ice cream from Longacre’s Dairy, a Berks County institution.
