In-Person Meeting Advanced Grower Intensive

December 6, 2022 @ 8:45 am - 4:15 pm

Dig deep on management strategies that contribute to a successful and sustainable vegetable operation.

This full-day meeting is designed for professional vegetable growers with a minimum of five years farm management experience. Join us at the Nurture Nature Center for in-depth presentations and farmer-to-farmer breakout sessions. You’ll have the chance to raise the questions that matter most to your farm, share your own insights and experiences, and connect with and learn from fellow growers.

We’ll kick off the day with a 2022 Season-in-Review from Emma de Long of Kneehigh Farm and Derek McGeehan and Dana Hunting of Anchor Run CSA. They’ll share reflections on their growing seasons and consider what’s on the horizon in 2023.

Then Sara Eckert and Dave Sandy of Healthy Harvest Farm will present a case study of how their approach to nutrient management and cover cropping has evolved over the years.

We’ll break for lunch from Made by Lino featuring locally grown and produced ingredients and get a Pennsylvania farmers market update from Brian Moyer of Penn State Extension.

In the afternoon, Jennifer Glenister of New Morning Farm will discuss the logistics of managing irritation, balancing irrigation with other work schedules (i.e. cultivation and harvest), and the impact of irrigation on farm profitability in a dry year.

We’ll wrap up presentations with a full panel discussion about how these issues fit in the big picture and contribute to the bottom line of running a successful vegetable operation.

Stick around for Farm Bill Happy Hour! Enjoy some complimentary refreshments, mix and mingle with speakers and attendees, and hear from Lindsey Shapiro of Root Mass Farm about Farm Bill programs that help her operation work toward goals of profitability, sustainability, and equity.

Optional: Join us for dinner at Daddy’s Place Restaurant. (Price of dinner is not included in registration).

This event is presented in partnership with Penn State Extension and Buy Fresh Buy Local of the Greater Lehigh Valley and sponsored by PCO Certified Organic.
