Liberty Farms seeks Garden Crew Members for 2020 Season!

Liberty Farms, a NOFA NY certified organic farm in Columbia County NY, is hiring for its vegetable crew for the 2020 season. Liberty Farms is supported by a 150 member CSA and a weekly farmers’ market. We grow on about 12 acres.

A vegetable crewmember’s primary responsibilities include harvest, washing, and packing vegetables for the weekly CSA and market under the direction of the Vegetable Manager and Assistant Manager. Crewmembers also work with the managers to seed, plant, and cultivate crops while learning about the organic production of vegetables. They also help run the farm stand at the Stuyvesant Town Greenmarket in NYC on Sundays (May-December), including transporting produce down to the market.

This is a good opportunity for someone interested in learning about all of the different aspects of running a small organic vegetable farm, from seeding to sales.

An ideal candidate would have at least one season of experience in commercial organic or biodynamic vegetable growing. Experience and prior skills greatly appreciated include:
• The ability to think independently and follow directions;
• Excellent communication skills;
• An interest in and enthusiasm for learning more about organic vegetable
growing practices;
• An ability to work well with others and with a strong work ethic. A sense of
humor is always useful!
• The ability to lift 50 pounds;
• A valid driver’s license and willingness to sometimes drive farm delivery
vehicles within NYC;
• Reliable transportation to and from the farm.

The position is open from mid-May through October 2020, with about 40 hrs of work each week, with some weekend hours required. Compensation is hourly, depending on experience. Crewmembers receive organic vegetables, eggs, and some meat in addition to hourly compensation. Housing may also be available.
