Location: Wiscasset, Maine

  • On Campus, Residential (Seasonal)
  • Shared Housing (no pets)

Schedule/Approximate 2026 Dates: Late May 2026 – October 1, 2026 (preferred)
Reports to: Educational Farm Manager
Salary: $500/Week
Incentives & Support: Travel stipend, housing and meals included, and a $200 refer-a-friend bonus

Essential Responsibilities

  • Work within the farm crew to produce fruit, vegetables and herbs for the dining hall and other Chewonki programs.
  • Participate in the daily care of livestock including pastured sheep, pigs, and laying hens.
  • During the Camp Chewonki season, integrate campers into various work and educational projects as well as daily tasks on the farm.
  • Rotate chore responsibilities, caring for animals and gardens either on a Tuesday- Saturday or Sunday- Thursday schedule (in collaboration with a year-round farmer) and 1 to 2 nights per week for 15 minute evening barn check shifts.

All Farm Crew members:

  • Balance production and education within the farm context.
  • Work on the Chewonki campus and share meals with the community.
  • Take shared responsibility for risk management by using sound judgment, adhering to your skills and Chewonki protocols, and addressing or reporting any safety concerns.

Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must possess a Valid Driver’s License.
  • Must pass a Criminal Background Check and Motor Vehicle Record.
  • Strong interest in education-based, diversified farming.
  • Experience working in a farm, educational, or recreational setting, preferred.
  • Ability to work long hours in a physically demanding setting.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Willingness to responsibly live and work in a small community.
  • Attend required onboarding and training sessions (in person).

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lb at a time.
  • Must be able to work in an active, outdoor environment in a variety of weather conditions.
  • Must be able to live and work in a camp setting.
