Hershey Gardens is hiring a full-time Edible Landscape Gardener!
Major Job Duties:
- Maintain Hoop House and Student Garden as an educational resource. Responsible for coordinating with education staff in the planning and design of exhibits, seasonal displays and daily care and maintenance of plantings in these areas.
- Assist Manager of Education and Public Programs with development and execution of educational programs utilizing the Hoop House and Student Garden.
- Assist with off-season garden and conservatory maintenance tasks as directed by the Director of Horticultural Operations.
Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities required:
- Work may be performed in a variety of outdoor and indoor environments and weather conditions
- Requires physical effort including lifting up to 50 pounds and extended periods of standing or walking
- Willing and able to test and successfully obtain a Pennsylvania Commercial or Private Applicators license within 3 months of hire
- Must be able to operate various garden-related machinery and equipment including snow removal equipment
- Pennsylvania driver’s license required
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
- Occasional need to help with set-up or tear-down of events
- Demonstrated basic skills in oral and written communication
- Demonstrated ability to consistently represent Hershey Gardens and The M.S. Hershey Foundation in a positive, professional manner
- Demonstrated ability to perform duties professionally under public situations
Minimum education and experience required:
- Documented training in horticulture, related studies or a minimum of two years of work in horticulture at a professional level required
- Continuing education courses in horticulture or a related field helpful
This position requires criminal history background checks in addition to child abuse background checks as a condition of employment.
Candidate mut be able to work a flexible schedule that requires occasional weekends and evenings.
Starting Salary: $18/hour
