About the farm:

Katydid Hill is a farmer-owned, organic herbal tea farm and apothecary where we are committed to growing 100% of the herbs in our teas and elixirs. Chamomile is our favorite crop to grow around here, and we specialize in crafting the most aromatic and flavorful cup of chamomile tea you’ve ever had. We believe that the flavor is the medicine and craft each blend to delight, uplift, or simply meet you where you are at. Katydid Hill is co-owned by Katelyn and Ben, partners in love and farming, and grew out of our love of the land and creating space where tea is shared.

As a team, we grow herbs on about 6 acres with a combination of handwork, small equipment and a few trusty old tractors. We package everything by hand in our certified kitchen and sell primarily at farmers markets, on our webstore, and to small shops and grocers nationally. The farm is a 45 acre piece of a 160 acre farm, all managed organically – we also raise wool sheep, host the bees of A-frame apiary, and a few other fun projects. Ben and I are excited to be entering our 10th farm season as an herb farm, with some solid systems in place as well as lots of new things and room for improvement.

Farm Location: Sinking Spring, Berks County, PA—15 minutes from West Reading, 45 minutes from downtown Lancaster, 1.5 hours from downtown Philly

Position: Full-Time Farm, Apothecary, and Market Crew Member

Join the crew and work in all aspects of growing, processing, and marketing medicinal herbs! You’ll work side-by-side with Katelyn, Ben, and the 2-3 person farm crew, as well as independently throughout the week. You’ll be regularly involved with our farmers markets, helping to fulfill our mission and be a guide for folks interested in herbal teas.

Pasa Diversified Vegetable Apprenticeship option: We are open to hosting an apprentice again in 2026 through Pasa. DVA is a self-directed program where you receive additional support and resources from Pasa and mentorship through your host farm. This is an ideal option for someone who has solid farming experience, is serious about pursuing a career in farming and wants to learn the ins and outs, big picture and technical aspects of producing high quality medicinal herbs on a market scale. You will have the opportunity to build on your current skill set and explore all aspects of a farm-apothecary business. We hosted 3 apprentices for 3 years before our move, took 2 years off and now are excited and ready to host again.

Schedule:

• Full-time (40-45 hours per week), seasonal position, March 10 – December 22, 2026 (year-round employment is a possibility and we offer paid educational opportunities for returning employees)
• We need all hands on deck during the months of May and June, so we ask that you not take time off during those months. Outside of May/June we are excited to offer paid vacation days.
• Tuesdays-Fridays 8-4:30 for farm/apothecary work days
• One farmers markets per week, either on Saturday or Sunday, exact schedule TBD
• Saturday markets typically 6 AM to 3-4pm
• Sundays markets typically 7 AM to 3-4pm
• Regular weekend hours are required – time off market hours must be planned in advance

Responsibilities:

• Field Production: Assist in all aspects of medicinal herb production, including fieldwork, cultivation and handweeding, harvest and post-harvest processing. Tractor and small engine equipment work including mowing, bed prep, cultivation, harvest, weed wacking, etc.
• Apothecary Production: Assist in production of all herbal products: blending and packaging teas, fresh tincturing and pressing, and blending and bottling tinctures
• Farmers Markets: Market days begin with packing up the truck and driving to market, setting up a beautiful and consistent market stand, chatting with market-goers and operating the POS system, closing up and driving back to the apothecary
• You will typically be working independently as the sole market operator. Market days start early and are typically 8-10 hours, occasionally 12 hours depending on the market
• General: Assist with all farm, apothecary and market tasks as needed.

Required Qualifications, Important Personal Attributes, and Experience:

• Must be able to lift 50 lbs above your waist and be willing to work in all weather conditions
• Clean driving record
• Desire to work efficiently, both with a team and independently
• Strong communication and time management skills; ability to give and receive feedback
• A strong work ethic and a strong value of self care and community care
• Beneficial but not required: 1 to 2 seasons experience on a production farm; tractor operation and farm equipment experience

Compensation:

• $16-18/hr daily base pay (based on experience) plus commission at farmer’s markets
• Paid days off including sick leave and vacation days
• Gear stipend and paid educational opportunities
• Staff discounts: 50% discount on all packaged retail products; 25% discount on bulk sizes (1 lb bags, 8 oz elixirs)
