DAIRY PROCESSING SPECIALIST POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Dairy Processing Specialist will be primarily responsible for milk handling; including pasteurization, processing and bottling of raw milk, and making yogurt; in addition to assisting the Dairy Operations Manager with other herd and land management related tasks such as milking, moving cows 1-4 times per day during the grazing season, feeding hay, mucking the barn yard, and maintaining fences and buildings. With Biodynamics as our guiding star, innovation and improvement in dairy practices are encouraged, with opportunities to re ne the operation. This full-time position, with seasonally variable hours and some weekend work possible, directly impacts the community by providing quality dairy, contributing to the nourishment of our community, and creating meaningful engagement for guests, students and volunteers. Reports to the Dairy Operations Manager.

RESPONSIBILITES: 

  • Biodynamic Practices: Passionately implement and maintain Biodynamics across all dairy operations
  • Herd and Pastures: Assist with milking chores as needed and help provide adequate nourishment to cows (grass, hay, grain, minerals etc) and assist with grooming, calving, weaning, and culling as needed
  • Milk Handling: Maintain cleanliness in milk house and processing plant to ensure safe supply of raw and pasteurized products for our customers
  • Production: Following state and federal guidelines, SOPs and GMPs, produce high quality dairy products on a consistent processing/bottling schedule
  • Equipment & Infrastructure Maintenance: Track, report, and assist with all needed dairy equipment maintenance including regular parts replacement of milking, milk storage and processing equipment
  • State Inspection Compliance: Maintain detailed records, assist with monthly reports, and ensure compliance with state and federal regulations
  • Customer Relations: Maintain positive relationships with customers and partners, assisting with the delivery of product in a timely way
  • Collaboration: Participate in weekly farm team meetings
  • Community Engagement: Foster connections with the wider Community through education and engagement

DESIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Knowledge and interest in Biodynamics and regenerative agriculture
  • 1+ years experience in dairy farming and processing
  • Highly organized with an attention to detail and cleanliness
  • Collaborative and communicative
  • Able to bend, walk, and lift up to 75 pounds.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

  • Salary: $40,000-$45,000, onsite housing possible based on availability for rent
