Company description
Owned by the Hamill family for more than a century, Cherry Grove Farm was started in 2002 as a direct outgrowth of the Hamills’ passion for the land, their Central Jersey community, and sustainable food production.
Cherry Grove uses the farmstead cheesemaking model, meaning that we do everything on site, from raising and milking the cows to making and aging our cheese. By keeping the process in-house, we are able to ensure that we use only the best quality milk from humanely treated cattle who graze on over 200 acres of verdant pasture.
Within a decade of its founding, Cherry Grove established itself as one of the region’s premier cheesemakers, garnering numerous national awards that reflect the care taken in every step of the cheesemaking process. The quality of our cheese reflects the high standards we keep in stewarding our land. We are committed to practicing regenerative agriculture, regularly rotating where our animals are grazing so that both they and the land remain as healthy as possible.
WE WELCOME ALL APPLICANTS, emphasis on ALL as in we value diverse backgrounds
Position description
Cherry Grove Farm is looking for someone to aid in all aspects of the cheesemaking process, including helping at the vat, in the aging rooms, and with sanitation. This position may also include assisting with farmer’s markets and events.
Fair warning: there is a lot of repetitive scrubbing, washing dishes, and brushing and washing cheese rinds. That is the nature of cheesemaking. A patient personality is a must.
This is a great opportunity to work first-hand within our local food system with our quality farmstead products – cheese, pasture raised meats, eggs (sometimes) and honey–and enjoy a 30% discount in our farm store.
You do not need prior cheesemaking experience for this position, though some experience with food or farming would be preferred. Love of cheese is essential. 40 hours per week
Compensation: This position is hourly at $16–20/hour DOE
Application instructions: E-mail your cover letter and resume to Paul and Christine at cherrygrovefarmwholesale@gmail.com.
