The Horn Farm Center in York, PA will be offering a year-long Beekeeper Training Program beginning Wednesday, January 21st.
This program includes nine monthly evening sessions. After learning the foundations of honeybee biology and hive management, students spend the spring and summer tending live apiaries at the Horn Farm Center, working alongside commercial beekeeper Mark Gingrich. At the conclusion of the program, students are given the option to transport their own colony home, as well as the opportunity to enroll in the course for a second year at a discounted cost.
Students will be responsible for purchasing their own safety equipment and woodenware (hives/boxes). Guidance on what to purchase occurs within the class sessions. Tuition for the year is $500, which can be paid in full or through a payment plan over several months.
No prior experience required to participate.
