The Ultimate Diversified Farm: Grow and Sell It All!
Date: Thursday,
September 4
Time: 10am - 3pm
Location: Berry
Fields Farm, New Albany, Bradford County
Join Barbara and Charlie Gerlach for a tour of their extremely diverse
farm. They will share how they have managed to incorporate so many
projects and products into their business. Since they are especially
talented in integrating many marketing avenues into their operation,
we will spend part of the day learning about the best strategic
and varied marketing methods. We will enjoy a home-cooked lunch
prepared by the Gerlachs with produce from their farm.
Berry Fields Farm is a 50-acre farm business raising beef, pork,
goats, chicken, duck, goose, and turkey. They have a full market
garden including a 20 x 48 foot hoop house and 10 x 14 foot greenhouse
for season extension. They sell orchard fruits (apples and pears)
and have a u-pick blueberry operation. Additionally, they keep 25
laying hens for organic eggs and are looking into purchasing a dairy
cow to provide milk, cheese, and butter for the family. They have
a certified kitchen for farm dinners and host many farm-vacation
guests throughout the year.
