WANTED - Apple picking at County Line Orchard.
The orchard is hiring additional people primarily for
picking and packing apples from the last week in August
through October. We are an IPM orchard with some certified

SEEKING
FARM OPPORTUNITY - I am 23 and would like to
spend a year or two doing some sustainable food growing.
I am ready for gardening jobs, lots of digging, planting,
or picking, building with wood and natural materials,
learning about soil, compost, and grey water, working
with animals on a no-kill basis and enjoying the company
of other friendly animals. I would like to work somewhere
for at least one month but hopefully find somewhere
I can work for up to a year. I am low-maintenance, eat
mostly vegan/vegetarian, and will be traveling with

APPRENTICESHIPS - Spoutwood Farm Center,
Inc., a community-supported agriculture and educational
farm in Glen Rock, PA (southern York County), still
has one and possibly two apprenticeships openings available
for the remainder of the 2008 season (current thru November).
Apprenticeships include a small stipend plus free vegetables;
lodgings may be available. Apprentices are typically
college grads or equivalent, who desire a full-immersion
experience in sustainable agriculture/natural farming.
We also have an unlimited number of openings for interns:
interns do not receive a stipend but may receive college
credit if desired, and may work shorter blocks of time
if desired. Primitive camping available on-site, or
be local. We are a non-certified, but "organic"
in practice, produce farm supplying 100+ shareholders

EDUCATOR
- Sustainable and Renewable Energy Program Specialist/Educator.
This position is a joint PSU Cooperative Extension and
National Center for Appropriate Technology (NCAT) position.
The successful candidate will coordinate and deliver
educational programs and development projects for the
Northeastern PSU Extension Region and the Mid-Atlantic/
New England regions for each organization respectively.
The individual will function as a team member to develop
and deliver education programs addressing bio-based
and renewable energy opportunities, energy efficiency,
energy audit education, and economic development initiatives
in all energy areas. Master's degree is required. Preference
will be given to candidates who have one or more degrees
in Environmental Resources Management, Agricultural
or Environmental Engineering or Environmental Sciences.

during which I performed general chores caring for sheep,

WANTED – Farm Manager & Intern
- I am looking for a mature person or couple experienced
in natural farming, who is interested in sharing farm
operations and profits on a small organic orchard and
berry farm in the mountains of North Carolina. Work
involves permaculture bed preparation, weeding, sheet
composting, pest management through inter-cropping,
and farmscaping, harvesting, marketing, cider making,
pruning, mowing, foliar feeding , cutting firewood and
building small "green" shelters. Main season
is March through, October. Accommodations include a
small cabin needing finish work (carpenter skills helpful)
and other temporary shelters used by interns which include
a rustic hut and barn all without utilities or indoor
plumbing, as is the case also for the main house. There
is an outhouse, outside hot shower, pure mountain creek

ROUTE
DRIVERS NEEDED - Lancaster Farm Fresh Cooperative
(LFFC) is seeking two dependable, committed, full-time
route drivers and one part-time driver to pick up organic
produce from local farms and deliver it primarily to

FIELD
ASSITANT—The
Red Wiggler Community Farm in Clarksburg, MD is seeking
a field assistant for the 2008 CSA season. Red Wiggler
is a non-profit that employs adults with developmental
disabilities in the growing and selling of vegetables
to an 80 member CSA in Montgomery County, Maryland.
Under the direct supervision of the Field Manager, the
field assistant works to meet the need of the Red Wiggler
CSA and the farm sales program. Exposure to planting,
seeding, harvesting, cultivating, soil fertility, and
working with a variety of people. Starting pay: $9--$11/hour,
commensurate upon experience; Max. 40 Hours/Week; Tuesday

areas of livestock, cheesemaking, market gardening and

OPPORTUNITY
SOUGHT - Couple with two-year-old daughter
seeking experience in sustainable agriculture. Currently
in Philadelphia area but willing to relocate (housing
needed). We are interested in all aspects of sustainable
agriculture, integrated systems that include animals
and produce, composting, cover cropping, agroforestry,
alternative energy and permaculture. Our hope is to
be equipped for eventual service in a developing nation,
most likely Africa. Husband is a graduate of Slippery
Rock’s MS3 and Masters in Education programs.
